Weekly Song - Parallel Universe

The Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Parallel Universe

As a precursor to my mammoth quantum physics/parallel universe essay, have a listen to this wonderful rock song from the great RHCP. Some lyrics to ponder:

"Deep inside of a parallel universe,
Its getting harder and harder,
To tell what came first,
Underwater where thoughts can breathe easily,
Far away you were made in a sea,
Just like me.

(...)

I swear it's everywhere,
It's everything."

Weekly Song - Custom "Crawl"

Today's song is:

Custom - "Crawl"

This is a very dark song, with lyrics like "Are you ready to hide everything you know? Every last emotion without letting it show?" summing up the general feeling of helplessness and subversion that the world painted within this song embodies. I like it - it is a dirty, grungy track that does a good job of describing what it is like to live in a world driven by money.

Weekly Song - Bolt Thrower "No Guts, No Glory"

Recently, I heard a song that I had forgotten for a long time:

Bolt Thrower - "No Guts, No Glory"

This is one of those songs that immediately reminds me of where and when I first heard it (on a CD I bought in Berlin on my 18th birthday, if you must know!).

This is, hands down, my favourite heavy metal/power metal/battle metal/whatever, song of all time, and one listen to it conjures up all manner of memories, flooding through my mind like some kind of time-river. They just don't make music like this any more.

Weekly Song - Babyshambles "La Belle Et La Bete"

"I'll tell you a story but you won't listen, it's about a nightmare steeped in tradition."

Babyshambles - "La Belle Et La Bete"

Let's see - a charismatic young musician with a gift for words and a talent for songwriting, ripped up and torn out by drugs to become a mere shadow of his former self? Certainly sounds like a nightmare steeped in tradition to me.

Putting Pete Doherty's life to the side for a moment, people really don't take the time to listen to his stories more often. Take a chance to listen today.

Weekly Song - Rancid "Ruby Soho"

Everyone, give a little listen to:

Rancid - "Ruby Soho"

One of my favourite punk songs ever, because it is, purely, just so damn catchy.

I also thought it would be a fitting start to this blog - "Destination: Unknown, Ruby Ruby Ruby Ruby Soho".
