Lost - Round-Up #3 (+ Podcast Special)

Podcasts

I used to be a sceptic of podcasting - like the self-serving video blogs of YouTube, I could never understand why anyone would waste their time listening to the opinions of others over their iPod - time better spent listening to music, I thought.

Well, this week I have three ways in which I have been proven wrong.

The first is The ODI's podcast. I have discussed this more extensively in my review of his website, but put shortly The ODI (along w
ith Karen and Vozzek), provide a highly entertaining and educating Lost podcast each and every week, and your understanding of Lost is lessened if you are not a fan of this 'cast.

Check out their Season 6 so far at these links - Episodes 1 & 2, Episode 3, Episode 4 (plus a special podcast with Jeff Jensen from Entertainment Weekly).

I've recently listened to Episode 4 and my opinion of it is thus - there's plenty of personality (Vozzek describes his recent incident as a run-in with the Smoke monster), plenty of theories (Kate is a sleeper agent; the Marshall is a sleeper agent; Smokey is grooming Sawyer as a means of leaving the Island) and many a reference to great Lost-related media (The Matrix, Donnie Darko and... Home Alone!!)

The second podcast that deserves mention is Jorge "Hurley" Garcia's "Geronimo Jack's Beard". Again, I mention it in more detail in my review, but to put it plain - if you are a fan of the character Hurley, you are a fan of Jorge and a fan of this podcast!

Check it out at - Episodes 1 & 2, Episode 3, Episode 4, Episode 5.

The third and final podcast that merits special attention is the Official Lost Podcast, which is found at various locations across the interwebs (although Approaching Lost appear to maintain an up-to-date list of them). In these segments, the writers/show-runners Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindeloff talk us through various aspects of the Lost episodes - clarifying certain points, throwing out wild theories and rumours, generally goofing around like the rest of us geeks. However, upon re-listening and re-watching these segments, some startling truths emerge - long-running jokes have now become fact, little clues have been dropped, peppered amongst the talk of pantless podcasting and naming the Dharma shark (Ezra James Sharkington for those keeping up), so it is worth listening to for all fans and theorists alike.

In addition to the above three podcasts, there are a few others that I feel are worth mentioning. Although I have never had the time to check them out personally, I have heard good things about Jay & Jack, The Transmission and finally I have recently stumbled upon Lost Podcasting Network, a blog dedicated purely to fan podcasts of Lost. Once I have time, I will check these three out for myself and provide more in-depth feedback.

Now that the "special podcast edition" is out of the way, going forward I aim to split the Weekly Round-Up into 3 maintained lists. There is simply too much going on at the moment between the Round-Up, the Q&A, the Analysis and general blogging (not to mention real life!) to provide in-depth round-ups every week. So from now on, expect to find updates on Episode Recaps/Analysis, Podcasts and The Others.

As ever, if you have anything you want mentioned or added on to the round-ups, just pop an email along to lostquestions23@gmail.com or leave a comment here and I will try to include you in future updates. As always, the more the merrier!
